What changes the number

A boiled egg is about 78 kcal and 6.5 g of complete protein, which is close to the best protein-per-rupee available in India. Cooking method is the whole story: fried in a tablespoon of oil, the same egg is closer to 190 kcal, and an omelette with cheese is a different food entirely. The dietary-cholesterol worry has largely been walked back for most people, but if you have been told otherwise by your own doctor, follow that advice, not a food table.

Where this number comes from

Primary source: MetaFit Indian Curated v1.0, entry boiled_egg — the same dataset the MetaFit app logs against. Checked by MetaFit Nutrition Team on 2026-09-22.

Cross-checked against USDA FoodData Central (Egg, whole, cooked, hard-boiled), which gives 155 kcal per 100 g — effectively the same figure.

Home recipes vary, especially in oil and ghee.
