What changes the number

Rice is not the problem people think it is — 150 g of cooked rice is under 200 kcal, less than two rotis. The problem is that rice is served by volume, not weight, and a restaurant plate is routinely 250–300 g. Cooked weight also hides the real portion: 100 g of raw rice becomes roughly 300 g cooked. Cooling and reheating rice raises its resistant starch a little, which modestly blunts the glucose response, but the calorie figure does not change.

Where this number comes from

Primary source: MetaFit Indian Curated v1.0, entry plain_rice (Boiled and drained; raw rice roughly triples in weight.) — the same dataset the MetaFit app logs against. Checked by MetaFit Nutrition Team on 2026-09-22.

Cross-checked against USDA FoodData Central (Rice, white, medium-grain, cooked, unenriched), which gives 130 kcal per 100 g — effectively the same figure.

Home recipes vary, especially in oil and ghee.
