What changes the number

Mango is the fruit Indians are most often told to avoid, and the advice is mostly wrong. A whole medium mango is around 120 kcal — comparable to a banana, less than four biscuits. It is higher in sugar than most fruit, so if you have diabetes it is worth pairing with protein and keeping to one, but the blanket "mangoes cause weight gain" line does not survive contact with the numbers. Aamras and mango shakes are a different matter, because the sugar arrives without the fibre.

Where this number comes from

Primary source: MetaFit Indian Curated v1.0, entry mango — the same dataset the MetaFit app logs against. Checked by MetaFit Nutrition Team on 2026-09-22.

Cross-checked against USDA FoodData Central (Mango, raw), which gives 60 kcal per 100 g — effectively the same figure.

Home recipes vary, especially in oil and ghee.
