What changes the number

Same atta as a roti, roughly double the calories per gram — the difference is entirely the fat laminated into it and the ghee it cooks in. One paratha is about 195 kcal against 105 for a phulka, so a two-paratha breakfast is the calorie equivalent of nearly four rotis. Nothing is wrong with that if it is accounted for; the problem is that people substitute parathas for rotis one-for-one in their head. Curd alongside helps far more than pickle does.

Where this number comes from

Primary source: MetaFit Indian Curated v1.0, entry paratha_plain (Tawa-cooked with oil or ghee.) — the same dataset the MetaFit app logs against. Checked by MetaFit Nutrition Team on 2026-09-22.

Cross-checked against USDA FoodData Central (Bread, paratha, whole wheat, commercially prepared, frozen), which gives 326 kcal per 100 g — effectively the same figure.

Home recipes vary, especially in oil and ghee.
